lowcalorie

I have officially become an #oyster person. I feel part of a cool club! Oysters are one of the most nutritious foods per calorie. They are an excellent source of #zinc, #vitaminD, #vitaminB12, #protein (1 gram per oyster) and #healthyfats—specifically omega-3 fatty acids. A half dozen is about 50 calories (very #lowcalorie). They are also highly #sustainable since they clean, benefit, and support the environment in which they grow. #awesomefood #oysterlove #bushwicknutrition #bushwick #lazynutrition #lazynutritionist

#Watermelon #Mint #Icepops! Watermelons’ naturally sweet taste and high water content make it a perfect fruit for blending and making ice-pops without any added sugars (or even water). It’s jam-packed with #vitaminC, #vitaminA, and #potassium (#hearthealthy). One cup is only about 45 calories. Choose deep red/pink since studies show that
fully ripened watermelons have higher #antioxidants.

Blend 4 cups of tightly packed, cubed, fresh/frozen watermelon and a handful of fresh mint or spearmint leaves. Blend and stir as needed. Makes 10 3-ounce #popsicles. About 20 calories each!

Yup. It is what it looks like. I am using an #applecider #icepop as both my ice and a mild sweetener in my #seltzer. Adds a little something to the water without overloading it with sugar. #Yummy!!! Happy Friday :) #bushwick #bushwicknutrition #lazynutrition #lazynutritionist #lowsugar #lowcalorie

#Jicama is like eating slightly sweet, crunchy water. So good! It’s a root vegetable that kind of looks like a round turnip. Half of its calories come from #fiber, so even though it’s very #lowcalorie it’s very filling. I love to munch on it as a snack because it’s perfect on the go. Just sprinkle a little sea salt, cayenne, or paprika! #ilovejicama #veggies #healthysnacks #highfiber

American Spirit

Enjoy this little red & blue drink (in moderation) for tomorrow’s festivities.

Place all the below ingredients in a big bowl:

- 2 cups of watermelon
- 2 cups of blueberries
- 1 cup of vodka
- ½ lime
- 3 tsp of sugar (or 1 packet of stevia)

Let sit for at least a couple of hours and then add sparking water and ice to taste.

Serve with a soup spoon.

A few drinking tips:

*Fruit is naturally sweet so there is no need for much more additional sugar.

*DRINK WATER and SLOW DOWN. Alcohol is technically a toxin, therefore your liver will always try to eliminate it first. Therefore, it will bypass food to digest/process the alcohol. When you drink water, you give your liver a chance to “catch up.”

Happy 4th!
